Together we preserve our cherished community!
The Summer Residents Association of the Town of Mount Desert (SRA) recognizes the threat that Covid-19 poses to the retail, restaurant, and tourism-driven businesses that are the backbone of our community. Based on the feedback we gathered through a survey we recently conducted in partnership with the Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce and Town of MDI, many of those local businesses are struggling to survive. The Summer Residents Association is stepping up to help.
We are raising funds to make grants to those businesses the survey indicated to be at greatest risk. We are accepting Requests for Funding at the same time as we are raising funds, and our hope is to be in a position to start disbursing funds as early as mid-May.
THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS
5:00 PM on MAY 8, 2020
Please consider making a donation - thank you!
Guidelines
-
The SRA is doing its best to help those businesses that will be most severely impacted by the crisis.
-
We aim to grant the most we can to the businesses that need it most.
-
This program is targeted at retail, restaurant, and tourism-driven businesses in the Town of Mount Desert, and applications from businesses outside those categories or in other towns will not be considered.
-
We assume that non-profits have their own fundraising platforms, and that is why we have opted not to include them in this program.
-
These are grants, not loans, and there is no expectation of repayment.
-
We ask that each recipient join the Chamber of Commerce once their application has been approved. The Chamber has provided important input to this program, and the SRA believes a strong Chamber means a stronger business community.
-
The total amount to be granted will not be known until our fundraising efforts are complete.
-
Grant size will be determined by the SRA Board based on its assessment of each applicant's need.
-
If your business does not truly need a grant, we ask that you not apply.

We thank the organizations and individuals who have made contributions to the
Covid-19 Relief Fund.
Their generous support makes this program possible and is a testament to their commitment to our community.
The SRA is pleased to be able to initiate the fundraising with a $50,000 gift.

The Mission of the SRA is to provide an effective means of communication between the summer residents and the Town Leadership on issues that concern the current and future well-being of the Town. The Board of Directors of the Corporation seeks to represent the views of the summer residents and to keep them informed of, and involved in, the Town planning process on current and future issues.
Further, the SRA seeks to be the timely and constructive voice of the summer residents with the Town government, working closely with the Town leaders to preserve and protect the unique character, culture, environment, and quality of life of the town, through both a voice and financial contributions to further the mission of the Summer Residents Association.
