SRA Grants $1,000,000 to businesses in the Town of Mt. Desert

The Summer Residents Association of the Town of Mount Desert (SRA) approved 59 organizations from across the Town of Mt. Desert to receive $1,000,000 in grants from its Covid-19 Relief Fund.  The grants were generously funded with gifts from more than 235 summer and year-round residents and local businesses.

And please remember to SHOP LOCAL whenever you can.  In the end, that is how
we can all make the biggest impact and keep our local businesses strong.

The fund was created when the SRA recognized the dire threat Covid-19 posed to the retail, restaurant, and tourism-driven businesses that are the backbone of our community.  Based on the feedback we gathered through a survey conducted in partnership with the Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce

and Town of MDI, many of those local businesses are feeling this unfortunate pressure.  The fund was one way the SRA was able to help do our part to help out.

A Note About the Grants Process

Concluding a two-month effort to organize and raise funds, the Summer Residents’ Association Board allocated the Covid-19 Relief Fund proceeds thoughtfully and impartially. The methodology examined each applicant’s revenue and line of business to calculate a suggested allocation for each applicant uniformly and objectively.

The Board regrets that there are organizations in need that did not qualify for the SRA Covid-19 Relief Fund, however the Board's agreed mission was to objectively abide by the published guidelines. We hope those organizations are able to find support from other sources.

These funds are intended to assist those businesses in the Town of MDI who will experience a significant business impact due to Covid-19. Should your business not experience an impact, we ask that you consider allowing the funds to be redistributed to another organization in the Town who was significantly impacted.

The Mission of the SRA is to provide an effective means of communication between the summer residents and the Town Leadership on issues that concern the current and future well-being of the Town.  The Board of Directors of the Corporation seeks to represent the views of the summer residents and to keep them informed of, and involved in, the Town planning process on current and future issues.

Further, the SRA seeks to be the timely and constructive voice of the summer residents with the Town government, working closely with the Town leaders to preserve and protect the unique character, culture, environment, and quality of life of the town, through both a voice and financial contributions to further the mission of the Summer Residents Association.
